Duo Blocks Access to Countries or Regions Subject to U.S. Economic Sanctions

Effective May 5, 2022, Duo is blocking access to its service when accessed from countries or regions subject to U.S. economic sanctions and some countries, such as Sudan, that are no longer subject to sanctions. The countries/regions where Duo is restricting access, effective May 5, include:

  • Cuba
  • North Korea
  • Iran
  • Sudan
  • Syria
  • Ukraine – regions including:
    • Crimea region
    • Donetsk region
    • Luhansk region
    • Sevastopol region

Users in these regions will see a Duo error message: “Access denied. Duo Security does not provide services in your current location.”

With Duo now required for Blackboard and Patriot Web (and other university services), individuals who travel to these countries/regions will not be able to use these services after May 5.

If you are a student or faculty member from or traveling to these countries/regions, please be aware of how Duo’s new blocking policy may affect you and take appropriate actions before departing. For students, if you have registered for Fall 2022 classes, you will not be able to make changes to your classes via Patriot Web until you return to campus.

See this Duo help article for more details.
