Web Operations & Support noticed sites were not loading and uptime monitors alerted.
Root Cause Analysis
Cause
Firewall vendor experienced upline network outages.
Resolution
Opened ticket with vendor to report issue, waited for vendor resolve. In the meantime, we routed DNS for prime sites, such as www.gmu.edu, its.gmu.edu and police.gmu.edu out from around the firewall so websites would be functional during firewall outage.
Prevention
Vendor was not able to share a lot of details about the outage for security reasons but they noted they are taking steps to prevent future downtime.
