Registrar got calls from people about the outage and passed the information on to the DBAs.
Students and advisors could not use the application for planning of registration or “what if” analysis of possible degree changes.
The application server was recently moved from a RHEL6 server to a RHEL7 server. The RHEL7 server has a misconfiguration in the /etc/hosts file which caused it to look to DNS instead of locally it resolve port 8801.
/etc/hosts configuration was corrected.
No steps can be put in place to correct for human error.
