Users trying to connect to MicroStrategy either timed out or had a delay in getting logged in.

Initial symptoms: 

The MicroStrategy team have automated cron scripts that run every 5 minutes to check if our application server can reach our web server. We began to get e-mails starting at 11:35.

All MicroStrategy users in all locations had issues logging in to MicroStrategies.

ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS
Cause: 

MicroStrategy servers could not reach the Fairfax DNS server, ruth

Resolution: 

A temporary fix was applied: ruth was commented out of the MicroStrategy server configuration file, so it did not try to communicate with it. Long-term system engineers will need to evaluate what the issue is with ruth, and then we will need to re-introduce it to the MicroStrategy configuration.

Prevention: 

System Engineers are working to determine the issue and create a permanent fix.
