Downloading Blackboard Collaborate Recordings and Files

Note:
Class Collaborate (formerly Blackboard Collaborate Ultra) is being retired and will no longer be available after July 15, 2025. If you have any recordings you would like to keep, please download them now—before the tool is removed.

All recordings will be temporarily archived after deactivation; however, this archive is not a replacement for downloading your content now. If you need help retrieving a recording in the future, you may submit a support request.

Accessing Collaborate Recordings

To download files, you must enter the course where the original recording was created.

  1. Log in to Blackboard and go to the course that hosted the Collaborate session.
  2. In the left course menu, click on Tools.
  3. Select Class Collaborate Ultra
  4. Click the menu icon (three lines) in the upper-left corner of the Collaborate panel.
  5. Select Recordings.

Downloading the Recording

  1. Locate the recording you want to download. (You may need to use Filter by | Recordings in a Range)
  2. Click the Recording Options menu (three dots to the right of the recording).
  3. Choose Download.

NOTE: If you don’t see the option to download, the session host may not have enabled downloads when the session was created. See below.

Download Access

To allow students or participants to download a Blackboard Collaborate Ultra recording, instructors must enable the download option in the session settings before or after the session.

Note: If downloads are not enabled, you will not see the download option. Instructors can change this setting after the session, and the download will become available to anyone with access to the recording.

Uploading Collaborate Recordings to a Canvas Course

Once you've downloaded your recording, you can upload it to your Canvas course using Kaltura MyMedia.

Step-by-Step: Upload to Canvas with Kaltura

  1. Log in to Canvas and go to your course.

  2. Click MyMedia in the left course menu. (Optionally you can go directly to the course area and use the Rich Content Editor method, see below.)

  3. Click the blue Add New button at the top right.

  4. Choose Media Upload.

  5. Click Choose a file to upload and select your downloaded Collaborate recording (usually an MP4 file).

  6. While the video uploads, fill in the Name, Description, and Tags.

  7. Click Save and optionally choose Go to MyMedia to view your uploaded file.

Embed Video in Canvas Course Content

To add the video to a Page, Assignment, Discussion, or Module:

  1. Edit or create a new Canvas item (e.g., a Page).

  2. In the Rich Content Editor, click the Kaltura Media icon

  3. Kaltura MyMedia will open in a new window.

  4. Find your uploaded video (or click Add New>Media Upload to begin a new upload), click Select, and then Embed.

  5. The video will appear in the text editor area. Click Save or Publish the page.
