Emergency Change to Central Authentication Service (CAS)

Information Technology Services (ITS) System Administrators will be making an emergency change to the Central Authentication Service (CAS) at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 14. This change is required to address a network configuration that has the potential to create unplanned service interruptions. System administrators of services that utilize CAS may need to adjust their configurations as a result. (Note: this change DOES NOT affect Blackboard or Shibboleth applications)

ITS is changing local DNS records for login.gmu.edu and devlogin.gmu.edu to ensure synchronization with Amazon Web Services (AWS) network address changes. In order to work with this change, systems that use CAS may need to relax outbound host-based firewalls, removing any rules that restrict CAS sessions to specific network addresses – currently 34.214.21.143 for login.gmu.edu and 52.24.129.84 or 52.34.44.239 for devlogin.gmu.edu.

ITS is making this change to address an authentication service disruption that occurred Monday, May 11 with devlogin.gmu.edu. On Monday, the network addresses associated with devlogin.gmu.edu changed, disrupting authentication for associated services. While ITS was able to restore authentication, this incident presented an urgent need to modify local DNS and host-based firewall configuration to better accommodate AWS network address changes and prevent future service disruptions.

Cable TV Channel Lineup Changes

The following cable TV channels will not be available on campus or via Apogee Stream 2 streaming service until Wednesday, July 29 at the earliest:

  • NFL Network HD
  • NBC Sports Washington HD
  • Mid-Atlantic Sports Network 2 HD
  • Mid-Atlantic Sports Network HD
  • LOGO TV

Other cable TV channels in the current channel lineup, including HBO GO, will remain available on campus and via Apogee Stream 2 streaming service to eligible students and subscribed departments.

ITS Support Center Modified Hours

Starting Saturday, April 4, the ITS Support Center will have the following modified hours until further notice:

  • Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, Closed
  • Sunday, 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Update Regarding Two-Factor Authentication for Office 365

Information Technology Services (ITS) has paused the required enrollment of Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for Office 365 (employee email) in recognition of the impact to our user community during this unprecedented time.

ITS Support Center Spring Break Hours

In conjunction with Mason’s spring break, the ITS Support Center will be closed Sunday, March 13. During the week, the Support Center will be open Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Support Center will resume normal operating hours on Sunday, March 20.
