New Telecommunications System Implementation

This spring, Information Technology Services (ITS) will begin to implement George Mason University’s new telecommunications system with Vonage, Inc.

This effort will replace our current system, which is near end-of-life, and provide Mason with advanced communications capabilities that are essential to on-site, hybrid, and remote work environments. The new system offers modern telephony features, electronic fax capability, and integrates into Mason’s business productivity tools, such as Microsoft Teams and Office 365.

Implementation will occur over the next year, beginning with ITS-staffed buildings on Fairfax Campus (Aquia, Fenwick, and Innovation) to ensure a smooth rollout to the broader community. ITS is targeting April to begin work in Innovation Hall.

Following this first phase, ITS will then install the new system one building at a time at Mason Square, then SciTech Campus, and finish with the remaining buildings on Fairfax Campus and other locations. Once the implementation is finished, ITS will work to migrate all Mason fax machines and retire other legacy systems.

In the coming weeks, ITS will provide detailed information about the new phone system, including user guides and step-by-step instructions, as well as an installation calendar to help the Mason community prepare for this rollout. All details will be available on the Telecom System Replacement Roadmap.
