Because you are new to the university, you will need to have a NetID assigned to you, and you will need to select a password. Before you start the process of activating your Patriot Pass Account, you will need two pieces of information to identify yourself.
- Your G Number—this will be given to you during the admissions process or during New Student Orientation
- Your Claim Code—this is the six-digit code that was given to you by the administering department
Once you have both of these pieces of information, follow the steps below to activate your Patriot Pass Account.
To activate your Patriot Pass, go to the Patriot Pass Password Management website.
On the Welcome screen, select option 1 Activate Patriot Pass Account and click here.
On the Get Your Mason Username (NetID) and Password screen, enter your G Number and your Claim Code, then click Continue.
Next, you will access the IT Security Awareness Training screen. This is a training used by Information Technology Services at Mason to satisfy the Commonwealth of Virginia’s IT security awareness mandate for all state institutions. You are required to complete this training twice a year and will take about 10 minutes to complete.
Your Mason NetID will be displayed on the Your NetID screen. Record or memorize it. Click Continue.
On the User Verification screen, you will be informed as to the last time you changed your password. Click Continue.
Next, you will access the Additional User Info for Password Reset screen. This is an optional feature that allows you to have a Claim Code sent to your alternate email if you forget your password. Please enter an alternate email address and your date of birth, you may also opt to Skip.
Next, you will access the Change/Enter Answers to Password Security Questions screen. Please complete at least 4 of the answers, then click Save.
On the Pick a Patriot Pass Password screen, enter your new password, per the Guidelines for Password Selection, then click Save Password.
Note: If you were issued a Limited Access NetID (starting with 9) in Step 5 above, please do the following:
- In approximately 48-72 hours, go to the Patriot Pass Password Management web site, http://password.gmu.edu.
- On the Welcome screen, select option 2 and enter your Mason NetID and your password.
- Follow the instructions to create your new strong password.
If you still have a Limited Access NetID (starting with 9) after 2-3 days, please contact ITS Support Center. The accounts are created 48-72 hours after all your paperwork has been processed.
The Verification screen will indicate that your password has been updated.
You are now ready to use your Patriot Pass to access these systems at Mason.
After activating your Patriot Pass Account you can then need to activate MasonLive.
Note: You cannot activate MasonLive with a Limited Access NetID (starts with 9).
