Frequently Asked Questions
Does uninstalling Office free up a device slot?
No. You must remove the device through your Microsoft account portal.
Will I lose any files?
No. Your files are stored in OneDrive, SharePoint, or locally on your device.
Does this affect Office on the web?
No. Office on the web is always available and does not count toward device limits.
Why does Microsoft enforce this?
Microsoft 365 uses per‑user licensing, not per‑device licensing. Device limits help ensure secure, compliant usage across environments.
When Should I Contact IT Support?
Contact ITS only if:
- You accidentally removed your current device and cannot sign back in
- You cannot access the device list
- You see activation errors after removing a device
