The ITS Data Warehouse (DW) team is implementing new data warehouse tables to improve the organization of course instruction data and to better align academic course instructor information with instructors’ HR employee records.
As part of this update, related MicroStrategy reports now leverage the new tables and follow a clarified reporting focus, depending on the intended analytical use. The reporting focuses are defined as follows:
Course Enrollment
Dataset: Course Enrollment per Term
- Focuses on courses and course sections with enrollment counts by term
- Includes primary instructor information only to ensure one unique record per course section
The Course Enrollment dashboard (VPN Required), located at Academic > Shared Reports > Course Enrollment, uses this dataset.
Instructor
Dataset: Instructors by Course Section
- Focuses on instructors and their course section counts by term
- Includes all instructors, with each instructor associated with a course section listed in a separate row (a single course section may display multiple rows if it has non-primary instructors).
The Instructor Teaching Assignments by Term dashboard (VPN Required), located at Academic > Shared Reports > Instructor, uses a combination of the two datasets to provide an integrated view of both course enrollment and instructor information. Users who need all instructor information (vs. Primary instructor only) should use this report.
