MicroStrategy Login Change

Impact of the change on users:

On Tuesday, June 25, 2019, users of MicroStrategy who access the system from off-campus or via a Wi-Fi network that is not MASON-SECURE, will be required to use Mason’s Virtual Private Network (VPN) with 2FA. Users accessing MicroStrategy via a computer connected to Mason’s wired network (except Mason Korea) or the MASON-SECURE Wi-Fi network are not affected. Reason for the change: 

ITS is moving MicroStrategy behind a firewall. (ID # 176103)

DNS Server Maintenance

EXTENDED MAINTENANCE

Impact of the change on users:

ITS will be upgrading DNS servers during the maintenance period. Only one DNS server will be worked on at any given time. Production DNS servers will be upgraded at night, early morning, or weekends to minimize any possible impact. The server and its services will be unavailable for a few minutes during the reboot.

Properly configured DNS clients (i.e., more than one DNS server configured) will not be impacted.

Reason for the change:

ITS is upgrading the DNS servers to fix security issues. (ID # 178474)

Banner Admin, Patriot Web & Workflow Unavailable

Impact of the change on users:

Banner Admin, Patriot Web, and Workflow will not be available during the maintenance period.

Reason for the change:

ITS is applying security patches. (ID # 178436)

Network Unavailable in Select Buildings

EXTENDED MAINTENANCE

Impact of the change on users:

The wired and wireless networks in the following buildings will be intermittently unavailable during the maintenance period.

  • Planetary Hall
  • Robert House
  • Nottoway Annex

During the planned maintenance, the wired and wireless networks, as well as Mason phones will be intermittently unavailable. Prior to the planned maintenance, please save all work that is network-dependent (i.e., files synced to OneDrive or saved to the M: shared drive) and plan accordingly for phone calls if you are using Mason phones. Cell phone service will not be impacted.

Webex Meetings Updates

Impact of the change on users:

No impact to users is expected during the maintenance period. If you have not updated your Webex Meetings client, you may need to install the updates prior to hosting or participating in a Webex meeting.

Reason for the change:

The vendor is applying security patches to Cisco Webex Meetings. (ID # 178191)
