Adobe Shockwave Removal (Windows Only)

EXTENDED MAINTENANCE

Impact of the change on users:

Starting Monday, June 17, ITS will be removing Adobe Shockwave software from Mason-managed computers. Users will not see any notifications, and the software removal will not require a computer restart.

For unmanaged computers, please see instructions to uninstall Adobe Shockwave by July 8. Adobe Shockwave FAQs are available for review.

Note: This change does not affect classroom or lab computers.

Reason for the change:

Adobe Shockwave was discontinued on April 9, 2019, will no longer be supported by Adobe or Information Technology Services (ITS), and is considered end-of-life (EOL). Per the Commonwealth of Virginia’s security standards, Adobe Shockwave must be removed within 90 days of the EOL date. (ID # 177996)

Mobile Printing & Select Services Unavailable

Impact of the change on users:

Pharos/Canon mobile printing and the following services may be unavailable during the maintenance period:

  • EHS Training (ehassistant.gmu.edu)
  • RMS

Reason for the change:

ITS is applying June 2019 Microsoft security updates. (ID #177812)

Research Network Intermittently Unavailable

Impact of the change on users:

The research network will be intermittently unavailable during the maintenance period.

Reason for the change:

ITS is upgrading router coding. (ID # 177470)

Network Unavailable in Select Buildings

Impact of the change on users:

The wired and wireless networks in the following buildings will be intermittently unavailable during the maintenance period.

  • Art Building
  • Blue Ridge
  • Eastern Shores
  • Engineering
  • Hampton
  • Innovation Hall
  • Merten Hall
  • Northern Neck
  • Piedmont
  • Rappahannock Parking Deck
  • Research Hall
  • Sandbridge
  • Sandy Creek Offices
  • Southside & Skyline
  • Tidewater

During the planned maintenance, the wired and wireless networks, as well as Mason phones will be intermittently unavailable. Prior to the planned maintenance, please save all work that is network-dependent (i.e., files synced to OneDrive or saved to the M: shared drive) and plan accordingly for phone calls if you are using Mason phones. Cell phone service will not be impacted.

Webex Meetings Upgrade

Impact of the change on users:

No impact to users is expected during the maintenance period. If you have not updated your Webex Meetings client, you may need to install the updates prior to hosting or participating in a Webex meeting.

The vendor is upgrading Cisco Webex Meetings. (ID # 177409)
