How to Add Media Using a Kaltura Course Gallery in Canvas

Using the Kaltura Media Gallery in Canvas

The Kaltura Course Gallery is a centralized space within your Canvas course where you can share video lectures, tutorials, or recorded sessions with students. You can publish existing media from your Kaltura MyMedia library, upload new content, and (optionally) enable students to share and collaborate by uploading their own media.

Step 1: Enable the Kaltura Course Gallery in Your Course

Before you can use the Kaltura Course Gallery, it must be enabled in the course navigation.

  1. In your Canvas course, go to Settings > Navigation.

  2. Find Kaltura Course Gallery in the list of hidden items.

  3. Click the three-dot menu (⋮) next to Media Gallery and select Enable.

  4. Scroll down and click Save.

The Kaltura Course Gallery will now appear in your course’s main navigation menu.

Step 2: Access the Kaltura Course Gallery

  • In your course navigation menu, click Kaltura Course Gallery.

  • The gallery opens with the Media Galllery home page by default.

Step 3: Add Existing Media from MyMedia

  1. In the Kaltura Course Gallery, click the Media tab.

  2. Select + Add Media.

  3. Check the box(es) next to the media you want to publish.

    • Note: Items already in the gallery will appear greyed out.

  4. Click Publish.

  5. A success message will confirm your media has been added.

Step 4: Upload and Add New Media

  1. In the Kaltura Course Gallery, click the Media tab.

  2. Select + Add Media.

  3. Click Add New and choose one of the available options, such as Media Upload.

  4. On the Upload Media page:

    • Drag and drop your file, or select Choose a file to upload.

    • While uploading, enter a name, description, and tags.

    • When finished, you’ll see the confirmation Upload Completed!

  5. Complete the required details and click Save.

  6. The new media will now be available in the Media Gallery.

Optional: Student Collaboration

The Kaltura Course Gallery can also be used as a secure, collaborative space where students can upload and share their own videos. Instructors can enable moderation to approve submissions before they appear in the gallery.
