Guidance on Forthcoming New MacOS (Sequoia)

Apple recently announced the intended release of the newest version of macOS, Sequoia (15), which is scheduled to be made available to the general public on Monday, September 16. Information Technology Services (ITS) is reviewing this new release to assess compatibility with services and software used across George Mason University. After conducting this assessment, we anticipate full George Mason adoption of macOS Sequoia by Wednesday, October 16.

Important Note Regarding Sequoia
While ITS completes its assessment, it is highly recommended that all George Mason-owned Mac systems remain on macOS 13 Ventura or macOS 14 Sonoma until more information is available.

Important Note for macOS 12 Users
Along with the macOS 15 release, Apple is discontinuing support for macOS 12 Monterey. This means any systems currently running macOS 12 will no longer receive security updates. ITS has already begun upgrading systems that are still running macOS 12. Systems still running macOS 12 risk removal from the George Mason network starting Tuesday, September 24.
