Initial Symptoms
Human Resource (HR) website was reported as being down/inaccessible at 9:39 a.m., April 1. The HR website was redirecting to a url that didn’t exist.
Root Cause Analysis
Cause
- Bad configuration for website within hr.conf
- Configuration file was point to …/hr, which doesn’t exist. Configuration was updated to …/HR/web and Apache was restarted to resolve the issue.
- Restore file from March 1st and file was the same as earlier today. File was dated Feb 7th, which would have been the last configuration change.
- Issue didn’t show up sooner as apparently Apache was not restarted and therefore didn’t pick-up the changes. The Linux patches applied yesterday, March 31st, forced a restart of Apache.
Resolution
Configuration was updated to …/HR/web and Apache was restarted to resolve the issue.
