Impact of the change on users:

Skype for Business will be retired on Sunday, January 17, 2021. Existing Skype meetings will be converted to Microsoft Teams meetings. Mason Skype users will be redirected to Teams if they attempt to access Skype. External Skype users will reach Mason Teams users even if they don’t have Microsoft Teams.

Reason for the change:

Microsoft will retire Skype for Business on July 31, 2021. Skype functionality will be replaced by Microsoft Teams. Since all Mason Skype users now have Teams access, ITS will retire Skype for Business prior to the start of the semester. (ID # 207046)
