Network Services Maintenance

Impact of the change on users:

During the scheduled after-hours maintenance, all network services will be impacted by two brief, campus-wide interruptions as traffic is routed from Fairfax to the disaster recovery (DR) site as designed. The first interruption is expected to be less than 5 minutes while traffic is moved to DR. Once the Fairfax routers have been upgraded, a second brief interruption of less than 5 minutes is expected as traffic is routed back to the Fairfax routers.

Reason for the change:

ITS is performing scheduled network infrastructure maintenance to improve reliability, maintain vendor support, and help ensure the continued security and integrity of university network services.

Reason for the change:

ITS is performing planned network maintenance to return internet traffic to its standard operating configuration following the successful completion of the vendor’s scheduled maintenance and verification that services are operating normally.

Network Services Maintenance

Impact of the change on users:

During the scheduled after-hours maintenance, campus-wide rolling network outages will occur as upgrades are performed one router at a time, minimizing overall disruption rather than taking the campus network completely offline. Most buildings have redundant links and are expected to remain connected. Buildings without redundant connectivity may experience a network outage while the affected router reboots, with the reload process expected to take approximately 20 minutes, assuming no issues. The maintenance window includes additional time reserved for troubleshooting if any problems arise.

Reason for the change:

ITS is performing scheduled network infrastructure maintenance to improve reliability, maintain vendor support, and help ensure the continued security and integrity of university network services.
