The PC in a conference room on the third floor of Merten Hall was no longer connecting to the network. After troubleshooting the device, I reached out to the VIP chat group and immediately got a response from the networking team. Each member involved worked together with great skills of collaboration, each providing support from different angles. They started looking at the issue, at which time we needed access to the teldata closet. Shane was working the VIP support shift higher up in Merten but was unable to come down because he was working on another issue. Patrick came to the rescue, quickly coming from Horizon Hall to be the boots on the ground to check the ports on the switch. Working as a team they were able to quickly resolve the issue. They were still trying to resolve the issue, when Shane came down to provide additional backup. Excellent show of teamwork across ITS!

I was having an issue connecting to some AV devices over the George Mason network in the BoV meeting room. I had the vague whisper of the root cause based on some older conversations between our office and NOC support technicians that have since left the university. Dylan was able to take my request, quickly look through their list of reservations, and determine exactly what I needed to get back to working on issues in that event space. He reached out early in the workday, and was on standby as I wandered from one end the campus to the other and provided excellent service and also gave me the exact details I would need to submit future service requests to have the same work done for other AV support technicians.

What this team accomplished had the students, faculty, and staff dancing in the streets! They were able to delete that annoying pop up—you all know the one—the “Request for Information Page” that appeared EVERY time you wanted to access an app, even when you checked the box that stated, “Do not ask me again, as this is my computer.” Well, thanks to these ladies, that prompt has disappeared and we are now free to go along with our business without that crazy pop-up. Thanks to all of you—not even sure everyone has truly noticed but for those of us that have, KUDOS!!!!

With OS Ventura being decommissioned, one of our new Macs had not been received. We thought we placed the order early enough to circumvent losing network connection, but all things planned do not always come to fruition. Marcus was locked out of the network and needed to get back on quickly, which unfortunately happened on the same day that we lost Vonage. After a call with tier 1 support, the issue was escalated to Mike who was able to quickly help with the necessary steps, and all was back to “business as usual” in no time. We greatly appreciate that Mike was able to assist when all work had stopped for Marcus. Great job, Mike, as always!! (Marcus’ computer arrived 6 days later.)

Tamika Wilks
Tamika’s communication is on point. Her collaboration is what makes the workplace easier for everyone to get tasks done. Part of her communication with vendors must include the completion of the appropriate forms, mostly W-9s, to ensure invoices are processed and paid promptly with correct and updated information. Accurate and timely submission of these documents from the vendors is essential for maintaining efficient payment procedures. She ensures that the appropriate folks are included in her communications with vendors to keep everyone informed. This helps to accommodate any necessary changes or change orders that may arise during the process. During a recent conversation involving Level 3, she included me in the discussion. Tamika indicated that a change order would need to be completed before they could process payment for an invoice. This is teamwork and communication at its finest. We are and always will be “TnT!”

At the October Staff Senate meeting, the senate had technical issues that Eric quickly and calmly solved. When the senate asked for feedback on how we could correct it ourselves in the future, he gave an honest answer of what happened and how it was resolved and what to ask for in the future. Interestingly, it was not really an ITS issue as it seemed, but Eric still fixed it and gave us great input, and Dr. Washington also seemed impressed.

The upgrade that Microsoft sent out regarding the discontinued OS of Ventura caught me by surprise. I have two employees with those machines that would be removed from the network on 10/15. My team did their homework and got their requests into ITS finance (Toni) and logistics (Cassie) right away. These two ladies turned the requests around, got quotes in quickly, and we were able to get them submitted on the fastest timeframe imaginable. I cannot say enough about how professional, helpful, and speedy quick this endeavor took. Thanks to Toni and Cassie, we should be getting our devices prior to being kicked off the George Mason network in order to maintain business continuity. Awesome!!

I needed an emergency network exception so we could offer a potential solution for the Fuse Grand Opening. These guys made quick work of it and worked with our manufacturer to get it working. Thanks for helping make things happen for our users!!!

Quick thinking on Matt’s part at the start of the Zoom session for the Non-Academic Units Spring Town Hall with President Washington (10/3), when he realized that the host only had a Webinar 500 license and at 9:02 a.m. it was already capped at 502 attendees. Seeing that, he immediately added the Webinar 1000 license, allowing for additional virtual participation. Great catch and great work to quickly make this adjustment. The town hall was saved by Matt for many end users!!!
