Part of the 4th Floor of Research Hall was without internet connectivity (Wired, Wireless, and VoIP services).

Initial symptoms: 

Internet connectivity was lost to the switch in the 4th floor B Telecom Room.

Impact to Mason: 

Half of the 4th Floor of Research Hall was without internet services for approximately an hour.

ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS
Cause: 

Static IP configuration from one of the end clients caused the switch uplink to flap.

Resolution: 

The switch connection was restored after we implemented the switch configuration to shut down ports with rouge IP static configurations.

Prevention: 

Switch was configured to shutdown ports with rouge IP static configurations. Users with static configuration needs, will have to submit a formal request for Reserved DHCP IP.
