George Mason experienced an intermittent VPN access for remote users. After further troubleshooting with the vendor (HPE,CISCO) , a radius service was restarted on the Clearpass authentication server to clear the issues.

All remote VPN users were impacted.

ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS
Cause:
Internal Clearpass radius service error.
Resolution:
GMU engineers worked with Aruba HPE TAC to restart the radius service on the Clearpass server, which restored normal functionality.
Prevention:
Monitor the system logs / load ( #of requests/timeouts) per server.
