ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS
Cause:

Server typhon was moved to a new network security zone with new private IP address. This required new load balancer configuration for each typhon-hosted web site accessed from outside the university including the redirect link https://masonleaps.gmu.edu.

Web browsers connecting from outside the university that didn’t initiate secure hypertext transfer protocol (https) connections by default (generally legacy browsers) didn’t have a matching protocol endpoint on the load balancer (http://masonleaps.gmu.edu) to redirect them to the secure connection.

Resolution:

Create an additional load balancer configuration (http://masonleaps.gmu.edu) to redirect browsers to https://masonleaps.gmu.edu (the secure protocol endpoint).

Prevention:

Load balancer configuration will be reviewed versus server configuration in future.
