Classroom Technology Issues Due to Power Outages

Multiple brief power outages that caused the Mason network to go offline.  Once the power was restored we received issues where the network was not available.  In addition to this issue we saw computers that got stuck at a recovery prompt that forced the end user to select continue or cancel to be able to use the computer.

Initial symptoms: 

Customers calling stating that they had no internet and some where the computer was not booting up properly and asking them to continue or cancel in recovery mode.

Impact to Mason: 

Instructors in registrar classrooms could not proceed with their classes as they could not get the AV system to work properly.

ROOT CAUSE ANALYSIS
Cause: 

Multiple power hits on the Fairfax campus causing the network to go down.

Resolution: 

Rebooted the Core switch for the Innovation building to get the internet functional again. CaLT visits made to the classrooms to start the projector with a remote or cancel out of the computer being in a recovery mode.

Prevention: 

Power outage was a result of the power company.
