Users connected to the university’s Wi‑Fi service may experience brief connection interruptions during the maintenance window. If a device is disconnected, it should automatically reconnect once maintenance activities on the affected system are complete.

Impact of the change on users:
Users at all George Mason campuses and locations may experience a brief internet service interruption of approximately five minutes during the maintenance window. New Virtual Private Network (VPN) connections will be unavailable during this period; however, existing VPN connections are expected to remain active. Services hosted in Azure are not expected to be affected.
Reason for the change:
ITS is performing planned network maintenance to move internet traffic to a backup connection in advance of scheduled maintenance being performed by the vendor. The vendor’s maintenance window is scheduled for Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. EDT and is expected to result in a complete outage of the primary connection. Internet connectivity will continue through the alternate connection during the vendor maintenance period.
