Microsoft Windows 11 Announcement

Microsoft has announced the end of life for Windows 10. After October 14, 2025, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or support for Windows 10 systems. As a result, all Windows 10 systems must be upgraded to Windows 11 or removed from the Mason network.

To ensure our systems will work with Windows 11, Information Technology Services (ITS) is currently testing various Windows 11 use cases and aims to be finished by June 2023. This includes Mason’s standard applications, printing, and data storage used in classrooms, labs, and administrative desktops. Until testing has been completed, ITS asks that users refrain from upgrading their critical systems as some PC hardware may be unable to upgrade and will need to be replaced. Please work with your internal purchasing processes for the replacement of incompatible hardware prior to the October 2025 end of Windows 10 support.

Additionally, ITS is preparing a Windows 11 standard image for deployment for Mason-managed systems that will be made available after testing in 2023. This will be a collaborative effort between ITS and IT representatives from departments and schools across Mason.

In the coming months, ITS will provide additional information to update the Mason community on the project status. To learn more about this effort, visit the Windows 11 Roadmap.

If you have questions or experience issues, please contact the ITS Support Center at 703-993-8870 or support@gmu.edu.
