Service Summary

Course Blogs is powered by WordPress, a web-publishing platform that enables site builders to set up a web presence quickly and easily. It provides a set of standard templates and plugins with which to customize your site.

Instructors seeking to add a collaborative element to their course material might create a group blog on WordPress, but manage grading and other sensitive information within Blackboard. Course Blog sites are available for faculty to use for academic courses and is intended to use for active courses, not as a host for personal or departmental sites, organizations, or as an archive for materials.

Getting This Service

Course Blogs is intended to be a self-service tool. ITS offers assistance in setting up sites, adding users, and saving your sites' contents, but will not be able to provide advanced training or design consultations.

Join the Blackboard & Instructional Technologies Collective

The Blackboard & Instructional Technologies Collective is a team for Mason's faculty and staff instructional technology users to communicate with their peers and discuss new features, best practices, and other topics of interest pertaining to the following ITS-supported tools: Blackboard, Kaltura, Poll Everywhere. This is not intended to replace submitting an issue via the ITS Support Center. The collective is moderated by members of the Mason community and ITS.

Submit an ITS support request if:

  • It is something that requires an urgent/timely ITS response
  • You are requesting information or troubleshooting assistance

Post in one of the channels if:

  • You would like to share a use case or feature you’ve found helpful
  • You would like to test out a new feature with your peers
  • You would like to know how your peers are using the tools
