Colo VM Migration

Impact of the change on users:

The following services and applications will be intermittently unavailable during the maintenance period:

  • The Power BI Gateway used by the Auxiliary Business Services team is located on this server. As a result, access to Power BI reports and dashboards will be unavailable.
  • This is the main Genetec Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) server and our main camera server node, to which other CCTV servers are connected. During the migration, all camera servers will essentially be offline.
  • During the migration, the SnipeIT application, which is used by the ABS and Housing and Residence Life team, will be unavailable.
  • This server hosts the Pandora application, which is monitoring software used by ABS, HRL, and the Card Access team. It sends out alerts when issues arise with specific systems. During the migration, this application will be unavailable, and no alerts will be sent out.
  • This server hosts the Photo API application server. This application server primarily caches photo-related information to reduce the number of upstream photo requests. During the migration, this service will be unavailable, and photo requests will need to go directly to the Atrium application.
  • The RS2 Translation server, which was supposed to be used in emergencies, was designed to lock down the campus doors and prevent access. However, a different method is in place, and this service is not used. There won’t be any effect on existing services during maintenance.
  • This server runs the Apache Airflow application and Web Server. This helps run Python scripts to transfer data between different data sources. During the migration, the scheduled Python scripts will not execute.

Reason for the change:

VMs must migrate from the COLO cluster to the Nodus cluster. This is also in preparation for VM migration to Azure AVS. (ID # 738239)
